Tobacco Group Develops Harm-Reducing Filter Tips Source from: Wuhan Evening News newspaper 03/21/2006 ![]() Wuhan Tobacco Group in central China's Hubei Province - a key Chinese tobacco manufacturer designated by the State Tobacco Monopoly Administration - has developed a new type of cigarette filter tips capable of reducing the content of harmful substances in cigarette smoke by 35 percent and lowering the content of tar by 10 percent.
Known as Macromolecular Sieve Material Binary Composite Filter Rods, the new type of cigarette filter tips are made with a macromolecular sieve material with apertures each measuring two to three nanometers, which is capable of absorbing such harmful substances in cigarette smoke as benzopyrene, and which basically does not absorb nicotine or other substances that bring sensory satisfaction to smokers.
Made under identical conditions, Macromolecular Sieve Material Binary Composite Filter Rods are capable of reducing the content of harmful substances in cigarette smoke by 35 percent more and lowering the tar level by 10 percent more than conventional cigarette filter tips.
So far, Wuhan Tobacco Group has developed new cigarette products using Macromolecular Sieve Material Binary Composite Filter Rods. Made with an improved leaf tobacco combination formula, the new cigarette products with this new type of filter tips can generate smoke containing nearly 60 percent less harmful substances, with the tar level below 11mg/per cigarette.
