Chinese University Develops Safer Ink for Cigarette Tipping Paper

The Printing and Packaging Department of Wuhan University in central China's Hubei Province has succeeded in developing a new type of water-soluble printing ink for cigarette tipping paper that is safer than conventional printing ink and more environment-friendly. The water-soluble intaglio paper printing ink was designed with the scientific planing theory, and is made of water-soluble macromolecule resin, advanced imported auxiliary agents and water, with special technology. The ink is of a high density, low adhesiveness, fine spreading stability and fine humidity leveling property, and is therefore highly adaptive to printing paper and printing speeds. The tipping paper printed with the ink is shining, heat-resisting and resistant to other inks, with clear microdots, and with a high degree of hierarchy. Longtime printing with ink will not cause jamming and the loss or change of colors. With a stable quality, the ink is environment-friendly, nontoxic and odor-free. Conventional tipping paper printing ink is alcohol-soluble. Though the printing of tipping paper with conventional printing ink is under strict industrial standards, conventional printing ink may cause harm to the health of smokers and its residual may contribute to negatively impacting cigarette flavor.
