China Should Expand Acetate Fiber Production, Experts Say

China should expand its production of acetate fiber, industry experts said. They noted that acetate fiber is a major cellulose next only to viscose fiber, and its production leads to little pollution. As imports of acetate fiber are quite expensive, China should expand production of such fiber.

At present the world’s annual output of acetate fiber is about 770,000 tons. Of the total, cigarette tow accounts for 520,000 tons, and filament, 250,000 tons. Acetate fiber accounts for 3.6% of the world’s total chemical fiber output and 32.6% of the cellulose output. In 1996, in the international market the average price for acetate fiber filament was 4638 US dollars per ton, and acetate fiber tobacco tow, 3948 dollars per ton. With tariff duty and value added tax, imported acetate fiber filament was sold 50,874 yuan per ton, and acetate fiber cigarette tow, 43,303 yuan per ton. As acetate fiber filament is much more expensive than viscose fiber filament for downstream manufacturers, its application is limited. Enditem SOURCE FROM: Cel.gov.cn
