Oriental Tobacco Becomes a Major Product of Ili Prefecture

Ili Prefecture in Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region has developed the production of grape, cashmere, walnut and oriental tobacco by taking advantage of its natural resources. As a result, oriental tobacco has become a major product of the prefecture.

At a recent assessment meeting on the development of oriental tobacco in Xinjiang, experts came to the conclusion that with an annual precipitation of 210 mm, and other conditions such as land, water, sunshine and heat, Ili has favorable conditions for planting oriental tobacco. And most recently the State Tobacco Monopoly Administration organized a team of more than 50 experts to further study the development of oriental tobacco in Ili, and they decided that the prefecture can build a production base of 10,000 mu (15 mu=1 hecture).
