Chinese Companies Develop New Alien Object Removal Machine

China Tobacco Guizhou Industrial Co., Ltd. in southwest China's Guizhou Province and a company in east China's Jiangsu Province have recently succeeded in jointly developing a new machine for removing alien objects in wind selection of tobacco sheets, filling a technological gap in China.

So far, the new machine for removing alien objects in wind selection of tobacco sheets has entered the phase of installation and debugging at Guiding Cigarette Factory in Guizhou.

An application for declaring the project of developing the new machine for removing alien objects in wind selection of tobacco sheets as a scientific and technological development project has been submitted to China Tobacco Machinery Group Co., Ltd. for review and approval.

The development of the new machine for removing alien objects in wind selection of tobacco sheets meant the filling of a gap in the development of technologies for removing alien objects in wind selection of tobacco sheets by the tobacco industry of China.

Presently, enterprises of the tobacco industry of China generally adopt the principle of spectrum to remove alien objects in wind selection of tobacco sheets.

In contrast, the new machine for removing alien objects in wind selection of tobacco sheets jointly developed by China Tobacco Guizhou Industrial Co., Ltd. and Jiangsu-based company adopts the technology of applying wind selection plus photoelectric removal.

The newly developed machine is the first of its kind to apply such advanced technologies as the 4-CCD color high-speed linear array industrial camera based on prismatic decomposition, color and infrared dimension multi-spectral image feature recognition and the FPGA+DSP high-speed processing platform. The project of developing the new machine was adopted at a scientific and technological development projects review and appraisal meeting held by China Tobacco Machinery Group Co., Ltd. in north China's Qinhuangdao City in August 2014.

Since the newly developed machine was put into trial operation, high rates of detection and removal have been achieved, with the rate of detection and removal of light impurities (including plastic scraps, paper scraps and mildewed leaf tobacco that are similar to tobacco sheets in weight) reaching ≥85 percent; and heavy impurities (including metal objects, small pieces of mud and stones and rough tobacco stems) 100 percent; and with the comprehensive rate of detection and removal reaching a high of ≥90 percent.

Results of the trial operation indicate that the newly developed machine is capable of significantly lowering the rate of mistaken removal and losses, and increasing the processing accuracy of tobacco cutting technology. Enditem
