<strong>China: Changde Tobacco Machinery Contributes to Flood Prevention, Control</strong>

Changde Tobacco Machinery Co., Ltd. in Changde City of south central China's Hunan has made contribution to efforts for flood prevention and control in Changde City by designating exclusive human and material resources in accordance with unified planning by the local Flood Control and Drought Relief Office.

On July 15, the Yuanshui Valley in Changde City was hit by the most serious flood since the beginning of the current flood season in the local region, as a result of persistent heavy rainfall, including an extraordinary rainstorm.

The current flood has been in a sudden surge to higher and higher levels, together with many risks of disasters. At one point, the water level in the Yuanshui River reached a maximum of 41.62 meters, above the warning water level by 2.62 meters. As the harsh flood situation in the Yuanshui Valley continues, risks and dangerous circumstances in some areas on the valley have kept increasing.

In accordance with unified planning by Changde City Flood Control and Drought Relief Office, Changde Tobacco Machinery has urgently started a prearranged emergency plan for flood prevention and control, and has earnestly made arrangements.

Firstly, the company has swiftly organized a team of 26 workers with flood prevention and control equipment and assigned them to keep watching a 400-member section of a dam on the Yuanshui River, in taking preventive measures.

And secondly, the company has established an emergency disaster relief squad of 50 workers and put it under unified command by Changde City Flood Control and Drought Relief Office. The squad can be dispatched to sections of the Yuanshui River with risks of disasters to deal with emergencies and disasters and to provide relief.

In accordance with the requirement of the leadership of the company, all the personnel designated to participate in flood prevention and control and disaster relief have kept patrolling the ditches and thick growths of grass in the areas around the dam.
