<strong>China: Changde Tobacco Machinery Participates in Mother River Protection Activity</strong>

The Communist Youth League committee at Changde Tobacco Machinery Co., Ltd. in south central China's Hunan Province organized more than 30 Communist Youth League members and activists with the company to participate in a "Mother River Protection" volunteer activity in Changde City on March 9.

March 9 was the "Mother River Protection Day". On that day, Changde City Environment Protection Volunteers Association organized many institutions to launch a volunteer activity under the theme of "Mother River, I Love You" at the Wall of Poems Park in the city, in which the participants were striving to turn themselves into disseminators of environment protection ideas and practitioners of ecological civilization.

At the inaugural ceremony of the activity, the volunteers, in accordance with the theme of "Mother River, I Love You", performed recitation of poems, song singing, martial arts, etc in sequence. On the sidelines of the performance, the Communist Youth League members and activists with Changde Tobacco Machinery Co., Ltd. organized a collection of signatures under the name of "We Are Taking Actions for Protecting the Mother River". Many local residents went to the scene to offer encouragement or get personally involved. The volunteers also distributed to local residents copies of a Proposal for Protecting the Mother River that they had previously printed, to actively disseminate knowledge about environment protection, and to enhance public awareness about "green" production and life.

Afterwards, the volunteers personally collected garbage at the Wall of Poems Park and on the Yuanjiang River. In particular, the Communist Youth League members and activists with Changde Tobacco Machinery Co., Ltd., with well prepared plastic bags in hand, carefully collected cigarette butts, white garbage, etc at the park and river banks from the flood prevention monument to High School No. 6 in the city.

Through participation in the activity, the Communist Youth League members and activists with Changde Tobacco Machinery Co., Ltd. not only enhanced their own awareness about environment protection, but also actively played their roles as disseminators of environment protection ideas and practitioners of ecological civilization.
