<strong>China: STMA Chief Inspects Changde Tobacco Machinery</strong>

Director-General Ling Chengxing of the State Tobacco Monopoly Administration (STMA) – the regulator of China's tobacco industry – inspected Changde Tobacco Machinery Co., Ltd. in south central China's Hunan Province on July 16, visiting production facilities and giving instructions on technological transformation and future business development.

Deputy STMA Director-General Li Keming was with Ling during the inspection. Ling doubles as secretary of the Communist Party Committee at the STMA.

Accompanied by Yuan Jianyao, assistant to the governor of Hunan Provincial People's Government, Wang Qun, secretary of the Communist Party Committee of Changde City, Zhou Derui, deputy secretary of the Communist Party Committee of Changde City and mayor of Changde City, et al, Ling and his encourage went to the metal workshop and the assembly and overhaul workshop, to investigate and learn about production and manufacturing of home-made ultrahigh speed cigarette rolling, joining and packaging units.

Seeing the sets of advanced numerical control machining equipment there, Ling required the enterprise to tightly focus on enhancing its manufacturing capacity, strengthen efforts for technological transformation, promote its core manufacturing capacity, and fully exert the support and guarantee role of technical equipment closely in accordance with the development orientation of the tobacco industry.

At Workshop No. 3 of the recently completed ultrahigh speed cigarette rolling, joining and packing units technological transformation project, Ling elaborately asked about the installation and debugging of the home-made ZJ116 ultrahigh speed cigarette rolling, joining and packing units.

Changde Tobacco Machinery Co., Ltd. Board of Directors Chairman and General Manager Zhou Shiwei reported to Ling and his entourage the work of small-batch production of home-made ultrahigh speech cigarette rolling, joining and packing units, the main situation of technological transformation of the enterprise and the basic guideline on business development of the enterprise in a next step.

Ling required the enterprise to seize all favorable opportunities brought about by current development of the tobacco industry, and make greater contribution to efforts of the tobacco industry for "promoting cigarette production and marketing to a higher level" and the development of the tobacco machinery manufacturing industry of China.

Ling's entourage also included chief leaders of the STMA's Planning Department, China National Leaf Tobacco Corporation and China Tobacco Machinery Group Co., Ltd. Those accompanying Ling on the inspection also included chief leaders from the General Office of Hunan Provincial People's Government, China Tobacco Hunan Industrial Co., Ltd., Hunan Provincial Tobacco Monopoly Administration, the Communist Party Committee of Changde City, the municipal government of Changde City, Changde City Tobacco Monopoly Administration and Changde Cigarette Factory.
