<strong>China: STMA Holds Meeting on Evaluation of Prototypes of Ultrahigh Speed Unit</strong> Source from: TobaccoChina Online 06/20/2013 ![]() The State Tobacco Monopoly Administration (STMA) – the regulator of China's tobacco industry – held in Shanghai on June 3-4 a meeting on technical evaluation of prototypes of ultrahigh speed cigarette making units made with imported technologies in the execution of a major exclusive technological introduction project. The evaluation committee, on the basis of earnest discussion, unanimously agreed to have the prototypes pass the technical evaluation, which signifies successful fulfillment of the tasks in the first stage of digestion and absorption of technologies introduced in the execution of the major exclusive project of development of ultrahigh speed cigarette making units by China's tobacco industry, which has contributed to filling a gap of development of home-manufactured tobacco machinery in the field of ultrahigh speed cigarette rolling, joining and packing, which signifies a leap forward from high speed to ultrahigh speed in the development of home-manufactured cigarette rolling, joining and packing equipment, and which means a new milestone in technological development by the tobacco machinery industry of China. The meeting unveiled a series of latest achievements made by the tobacco machinery industry of China in introduction, digestion, absorption, re-innovation and independent innovation. Deputy Director-General Li Keming of the STMA attended the meeting and delivered a speech. In his speech, Li Keming emphasized that the smooth passage of the technical evaluation of the prototypes of ultrahigh speed cigarette making units signifies realization of new promotion of production and manufacturing by the tobacco machinery industry of China to a higher level. At the meeting, representatives from Germany's Hauni and Focke extended congratulations over the passage of the technical evaluation of the prototypes of ultrahigh speed cigarette making units, and expressed the hope to further strengthen cooperation with the tobacco machinery industry of China, in anticipation of mutual benefit and realization of an all-win situation. During the meeting, the representatives of Hauni and Focke signed agreements with representatives of the Chinese side on technological transfer. The participants in the meeting went to Shanghai Cigarette Factory of Shanghai Tobacco Group to conduct on-site inspection of operation of an ultrahigh speed cigarette rolling, joining and packing unit on the production line exclusively for making Chunghwa brand cigarettes. The participants in the meeting also included leaders of the relevant departments and units of the STMA and China National Tobacco Corporation, leaders of the departments in charge of production equipment with China Tobacco regional companies and some provincial-level tobacco monopoly administrations, and leaders of Zhengzhou Tobacco Research Institute and Hefei designing institute of China National Tobacco Corporation.
