US: Screwpop Cigar Punch

An expensive cutter is a lovely accessory for black tie events, but for adventurous smokers on the go, the best pick isn't rose gold. It's rust-resistant, high-grade aluminum.

The Screwpop Cigar Punch meets this requirement and adds versatility to boot. The 8mm punch worked well for us on a pretty wide range of ring gauges, punching a comfortable draw on cigars from 44 ring gauge to the mid-50s.

The sturdy hook is also specially shaped to act as a bottle opener, making this a fully functional man gadget for both sipping and smoking.

There are a few drawbacks to this punch. It's one-size only, and since the punch itself is a tube, there is a bit of cleanup to be done after a cigar or two.

Our only recommendation? Make it longer, and affix a striking pad for matches on the bottom. The tube's diameter is large enough to comfortably hold three standard wooden matches, but it's a bit short in length to close properly with matches inside. With the tight seal it would have been ideal—and waterproof, too.

The D-link-style hook allows you to clip this little guy on your keychain, so you're never scrambling for a cutter, as tends to happen on the golf course. And its rugged design means that it's also great for your weekend camping trip with the guys. Backpack through Europe, or slap it on a belt loop for celebratory stogies on top of a mountain—where you'd hate to leave a more expensive tool.
