Bóveda Humidors by Savoy

The first order of business when buying a humidor is to make sure it does its job, that is, maintains your cigars humidified to desired level. But, for most of us, that's not enough. You want your box to look nice if it's going to occupy a place of honor in your den, billiards room or man cave. If you can put those two attributes together with the easiest-to-use humidification system going and a reasonable price, that's a win-win-win-win situation. The Bóveda Humidors by Savoy, available in three sizes, suit the first and third criteria by employing the Bóveda's Humidipak disposable humidification system for which it is named. Cedar slots on the underside of the lid are sized to fit the convenient Humidipak devices, which are preloaded with a saline solution. The 3 1/2-by-5 1/4-inch packets both release and absorb moisture and are guaranteed to keep your box operational for two months at the rate of humidity you choose. (Humidification packets are available in relative humidity levels of 65, 69 or 72 percent.) The company says they also eliminate mold, bacteria and mildew. Even better, there's no filling sponges with distilled water. You toss the used Humidipaks and replace them when they lose their juice. Buying into these humidors does, however, lock you into the Humidipak system, as the storage slots do not accommodate other popular devices. The simplicity of the system is matched by the aesthetics of the walnut package that contains it. Part of Ashton's Savoy line of humidors, they are handsome, high-polished boxes in sizes to fit 25, 50 and 100 cigars. (The number of Humidipaks required is variable according to the number of cigars.) The color is a chocolate brown and the wood-grain pattern is fitted to align from panel to panel. The cedar-lined interior includes a cigar tray. The pricing is a welcome surprise. The 25-cigar box sells for $140, the humidor for 50 cigars goes for $160 and the large 100-cigar box is $240. The humidors come with a set of Humidipaks, plus packets rated at 84 percent humidity, which are meant for seasoning a new box. Enditem
