New Bio-Degradable Material for Packing Smokeless

A company based in Gurgaon, Haryana, says that it has developed a bio-degradable packaging material that can replace the plastic previously used to pack smokeless tobacco products in India, according to a story in the latest issue of the BBM Bommidala Group newsletter. The plastic packs, used to pack smokeless tobacco and other products, and a colorful staple of the hawker's cart, were banned by the Supreme Court on March 1, though a September study by health bodies claimed that they were still being widely used. Roidec India Chemicals said the new material had already replaced plastic packs in some gutka, pan masala, chocolate and other small confectionery businesses. Enditem
