The Technology Behind Tax Stamp Security

The Tax Stamp Forum, which takes place 12-14 September 2011 in Washington DC, will start off with a workshop on the first afternoon. The workshop, entitled "The Technology Behind Tax Stamp Security" will be presented by Dr Glenn Wood of Reconnaissance International, together with a panel of international technology experts. There has been proliferation in recent years of products and systems for coding, track & trace, authentication and verification providing a comprehensive yet potentially bewildering choice of options as to the most appropriate solutions. Is an overt or covert solution required, or both? What works for an in-field investigator versus a laboratory-based analyst? Can authentication technologies provide forensic evidence that will stand up in court? How do features for public verification measures up? The list goes on … This workshop will examine in detail the science and technology behind the leading security technologies - current and emerging - being offered for use on tax stamps, enabling designers, specifiers and users to compare available security features in terms of resistance to compromise (counterfeiting, simulation and tampering). The cost implications of each technology will also be considered. The specific clusters of technologies to be examined will cover overt features, covert features, variable tracking elements and integrated systems, and Dr Glenn Wood will be joined by specialists from Luminescence, Opalux, InkSure, EDAPS, Fabrica Nacional de Moneda y Timbre, Figurazione, Goznak, Advanced Track & Trace and PragmatiC Printing. Commenting on the worship, Glenn stated that "this in-depth and practical examination of the multiplicity of different solutions will allowing participants to handle and compare such solutions and receive a truly hands-on experience of what is available in the market."
