Record Price Expected for Castro-Signed Humidor

A record price is expected to be paid for a humidor with 2,000 Habanos cigars when it appears as Lot 57 in C.Gars Ltd's fourth auction at Boisdale, Canary Wharf, London, on July 4. "We estimate that the Siglo XXI Humidor signed by Fidel Castro will fetch between £150,000 and £200,000," said C.Gars' managing director, Mitchell Orchant. "It comes complete with all documentation for provenance, a photo of the great Cuban leader signing the humidor and, not least, contains 2,000 of the finest Havanas - 100 each from Habanos S.A.'s top cigar brands. Only 21 of these humidors have been produced." The humidor is one of 250 lots of what is described as the world's most sought-after aged, mature and limited edition Havanas. "There is also huge global interest in Lot 215: four single Havanas gifted by Sir Winston Churchill," said Orchant. "This also comes with a letter of provenance and is expected to make around £2,500. "July 4 promises to be one of C.Gars Ltd's most memorable auctions ever, for it includes an evening of fiery music from Manolo and the Gypsies - two of whom are former members of the Gypsy Kings, the finest Malt whiskies from Robert Graham, champagne, wine and excellent food. "A lot of cigar aficionados are heading to the London auction from America to celebrate Independence Day with a difference. This will be an Independence Day for grown-up smokers who enjoy hanging out with like-minded friends and acquaintances." C.Gars said that Brian Ebbesen, the former cigar expert and auctioneer with Christie's London, would again be wielding the gavel. Enditem
