Stored Tobacco Pest Treatment Decision Expected Soon

Coresta's board is expected to decide later this year whether or not to endorse guidelines for controlling pests in stored tobacco that would make Controlled Atmosphere (CA) treatment the standard method, according to an item in the EcO2 newsletter. EcO2 has been involved in several tests to establish the effectiveness of CA treatment on stored tobacco. Such treatments are used extensively in other industries. A meeting of the Coresta subgroup on Pest and Sanitation Management in Stored Tobacco, which was held recently in South Africa, was said by EcO2 to have indicated that CA was considered a possible solution for pest control in post-harvest tobacco.
