Fulfillment of the 464-million-yuan (68 million U.S. dollars) project has actually resulted in the construction of a new Qinhuangdao Tobacco Machinery Co., Ltd. at a new site with a total construction area of nearly 100,000 square meters.
The relocated and technologically transformed Qinhuangdao Tobacco Machinery Co., Ltd. now boasts a capacity of annually manufacturing five leaf tobacco cutting lines, five leaf tobacco threshing and redrying lines, and two carbon dioxide leaf tobacco expansion lines. When fully operated, it is capable of generating 156 million yuan (23 million U.S. dollars) in annual profits and taxes.

Attending a high-profile ceremony to inaugurate the new Qinhuangdao Tobacco Machinery Co., Ltd. were Deputy Director-General Li Keming of the State Tobacco Monopoly Administration (STMA), Mayor Zhu Haowen of Qinhuangdao City, Board of Directors Chairman Wang Chongguang of China National Tobacco Machinery Group, Chairman Christopher Somm of the Executive Board of Hauni Maschinenbau AG, Board of Directors Chairman Guo Dongqing of Qinhuangdao Tobacco Machinery Co., Ltd. and other dignitaries.
In an address to the ceremony, Li Keming said that the tobacco machinery manufacturing sector of China's tobacco industry, in accordance with the targeted task and general requirement of the tobacco industry to promote cigarette production to a higher level, is giving full play to the leading role of homemade tobacco machinery in technological equipment, is providing tobacco manufacturing enterprises with more powerful support and guarantee of technological equipment, and is striving to promote the production of tobacco machinery to a higher level.
In the process of fulfilling the project of relocation and technological transformation, Qinhuangdao Tobacco Machinery Co., Ltd. attached importance to combining technological transformation with its development strategy and combining reestablishment of its operational process with development of an information system, actively planned, meticulously organized and carefully carried out fulfillment of the project, and managed to upgrade its production management and technological equipment on a full scale, in order to lay a solid material and technological foundation for turning Qinhuangdao Tobacco Machinery Co., Ltd. into a base for manufacturing leaf tobacco cutting lines for producing Chinese-style cigarettes and for conducting research and development in this endeavor, Li said.

Also speaking at the ceremony, Chairman Christopher Somm of the Executive Board of Hauni Maschinenbau AG said that completion of the project of relocation and technological transformation and entry into operation of the new Qinhuangdao Tobacco Machinery Co., Ltd. signifies a milestone of comprehensive cooperation between Qinhuangdao Tobacco Machinery Co., Ltd. and Hauni Maschinenbau AG, because in the near future, the two sides will jointly establish an experimental line.
Somm expressed the belief that joint research and development of state-of-the-art leaf tobacco cutting technology will mean great contribution to the development of technology for producing Chinese-style cigarettes.
In efforts to achieve breakthrough in the research and development of leaf tobacco cutting technology for producing Chinese-style cigarettes, Qinhuangdao Tobacco Machinery Co., Ltd. has managed to learn advanced foreign tobacco machinery manufacturing technology, and has successively conducted exchanges in the research and development of leaf tobacco cutting technology with Hauni Maschinenbau AG as well as Garbuio Dickinson and Comas of Italy, which contributes to further broadening the room for developing advanced leaf tobacco cutting lines for producing Chinese-style cigarettes.
In the process of fulfilling the project of relocation and technological transformation, Qinhuangdao Tobacco Machinery Co., Ltd., in efforts to further strengthen basic technology research for tobacco production, has signed agreements with Hauni Maschinenbau AG on joint development of a new experimental leaf tobacco cutting line and with Hongta Group on joint development of a new experimental leaf tobacco threshing and redrying line, which enables it to become a first tobacco machinery manufacturing enterprise in China with both an experimental leaf tobacco cutting line and an experimental leaf tobacco threshing and redrying line at a same time.
