Companies Roll Out More Sustainable Forms of Packaging

Innovation is more important than ever in difficult economic times, as consumer dollars become harder to grab. Focusing on packaging is a crucial place to make a good first impression on consumers. New research by Datamonitor reveals that companies continue to introduce more environmentally conscious and sustainable forms of packaging. Other trends also include more functional and convenient packaging features. The plastic beverage bottle has gotten an update, which has become "something of a symbol of consumer excess and waste" in Datamonitor's words. One example of innovation is the packaging introduced by Aquamantra Natural Spring Water, which comes in bottles produced by Enso that use a form of polyethylene terephthalate (PET) that can be recycled and biodegrades in one to five years. Additionally, State of Mind Bottled Water is available in Planet Green's Reverte Back to Nature Bottles -- "oxo-biodegradable PET bottles" infused with Planet Green's Reverte additive, which biodegrades over time via molecular degradation triggered by exposure to light. PepsiCo has also recently launched its Aquafina Bottled Water in an Eco-Fina Bottle which uses 50 percent less plastic than before. Frito-Lay has also introduced a new compostable package for its Sun Chips Multigrain Chips, which is believed to decompose in a compost pile within a period of a few weeks. Enditem
