Iggesund Reports Major Drop in CO2 Emissions

Iggesund Paperboard reported yesterday that this year it had reduced its emissions of fossil carbon dioxide by 65 per cent at its Iggesunds Bruk mill, where the company's flagship product, Invercote, is made. The reduction of 63,000 tonnes is equivalent to the annual emissions of 17,500 cars, it added. Guy Mallinson (above), Iggesund's business director sales, said that even before this reduction, the company's operations had been "highly robust and sustainable". "Almost 95 per cent of Iggesund Bruk's current energy consumption is from biofuels and we only have one more investment step left before our vision - of a paperboard mill totally free of fossil CO2 - will be a reality." Mallison said, however, that Iggesund's approach was not driven by short goals and the current media emphasis on CO2. Iggesund took a long-term view of environmental issues and evaluated them whenever investment decisions had to be made. Iggesund's job was to deliver a first-class product at a competitive price, but there was no contradiction here, he added. Enditem
