Hauni Introduces Twin-rod Filter Maker

Jan 12, 2009-Hauni is introducing the KDF-M, a twin-rod filter maker with special capabilities. Combining the latest filter- and cigarette-making technologies, this line can manufacture black and white filters to the highest quality, efficiency and output standards.
Hauni says its KDF-M offers an excellent variation coefficient that remains steady across the entire characteristic. The machine uses the AF-KDF 4's process geometry and converging rollers, ensuring a smooth transfer from the tow processing assembly to the rod forming process. Product quality is verified by ODM, a camera-based diameter control system introduced with the Protos-M cigarette maker.

KDF-M is the world's first filter rod maker to pick up and transfer cut rods with a "spider" instead of an infeed drum, which in terms of total operating time exhibits more stable running characteristics. Using a spider in filter making reduces the need for maintenance and spare parts. The machine is also the first filter maker to feature a top-mounted gluing unit for consistent seam quality and waste reduction.
The KDF-M's quick format and brand changing technologies with reproducible settings-including slim and superslim formats-follow the standard set by Hauni's Protos-M makers. The same applies to the line's visualization and operating concept, which includes an automatic restarting function and good accessibility.
The twin-rod principle enables KDF-M lines to achieve outputs up to 10,000 acetate filters per minute, equivalent to a rod speed of 500 meters per rod. The same is true for charcoal filters, which are produced with an additional AC unit. On filter rod makers capable of such high outputs, the semi-automatic bale splicing function-now operating at full speed-is a must-have. Enditem
