Zippo Manufacturing Co. Recalls 35 Furloughed Workers Source from: The Associated Press Nov 21, 2006 12:25 AM (22 hrs ago) 11/23/2006 ![]() Citing improvements in both domestic and international markets, Zippo Manufacturing Co. announced it has recalled 35 workers who were laid off nearly two months ago.
Company officials also said Monday that they hope to recall more employees in the coming months.
"Domestic orders for the holiday season have exceeded our forecast, and we have received several large reorders from overseas markets," said Greg Booth, Zippo's president and chief executive officer. "As business develops in the New Year, we hope to recall all of the furloughed employees."
The largest employer in McKean County, the company announced in September that it would lay off 121 people - about 15 percent of its work force. It blamed factors such as knockoffs of its trademarked lighters, regulations imposed by the Transportation Security Administration, high fuel prices and increased anti-smoking sentiment.
Officials at the time said they would call back workers if conditions improved. Enditem
