Walgreens Implements Tobacco 21 Policy Restricting Tobacco Sales To Youth

Walgreen has implemented a new tobacco policy informing their customers they will need to be at least 21 years old to purchase tobacco products in its stores.

Walgreens says their new Tobacco 21 policy became effective Septemeber 1 and it is part of an ongoing effort to prevent youth access to tobacco products.

The pharmacy chain says last October they enforced a “Card All” policy requires verification regardless of age on all tobacco sales company-wide.

Richard Ashworth, Walgreens president of operations says " We’ve seen positive results from other recent efforts to strengthen our policies related to tobacco sales and believe this next step can be even more impactful to reduce its use among teens and young adults. Through ongoing training and certification for pharmacists and technicians, we also continue to help and support people looking to quit the use of tobacco in their lives."

Walgreens says they have supported legislative proposals restricting tobacco sales to people 21 and older.

The company says they will continue to promote cessation products, services, and support tools to patients who want to quit smoking.  Enditem
