Proposed laws on vaping will see the industry being regulated, from the smoking of electronic cigarettes to the manufacture of products, says the Health Minister.
Datuk Seri Dr S. Subramaniam said his ministry, along with other ministries and agencies, were involved in the drafting of the laws, which would be ready before the end of the year.
"The laws will involve all aspects of vape, including its distribution. Once the draft is completed, we will present it to the Cabinet, have it gazetted and enforced," he told reporters after the Cabinet meeting yesterday.
Dr Subramaniam said his ministry would be among those responsible for enforcing the regulations.
Since last year, several states have either banned or have reportedly been mulling a ban on the sale of vape or e-cigarettes to Muslims.
On another matter, Dr Subra-maniam said health authorities were keeping in touch with the World Health Organization (WHO) on the reported swine flu outbreak in Brazil.
"We will alert the public as and when. We are in close contact with WHO to see if there is an unusual pattern.
"With the mass movement of people going to Brazil for the Olympics, we believe that international health authorities will put in place procedures and protocols to check on this," he added.
After the Zika virus, Olympics host Brazil is facing another health scare with reports of an outbreak of Type A of the H1N1 virus which has killed 46 people in less than two months. Enditem
