Thailand: Ingredient Controls Part of Mix

Thailand's Cabinet has reportedly endorsed the 2nd National Strategy for Tobacco Control, according to a National News Bureau of Thailand story.

The strategy aims to reduce during the next five years the number of the country's smokers.

It comprises six main aims: making people aware of the negative health effects of smoking; preventing new smokers adopting the habit; providing greater access to help for smokers who want to quit smoking; implementing tobacco ingredient controls; restricting smoking to designated areas; and enforcing the tobacco tax.

These measures, if properly implemented, are expected to save 25 percent more people from cigarette addiction by 2019 than would have been so saved without them. Enditem
