Turkey Mulls ''Dark'' Market Source from: Tobacco Reporter 04/19/2016 Turkey's government is considering plain tobacco packaging and other restrictions designed to curb smoking, reports the Daily Sabah. The measure "is a recommendation for countries by The World Health Organization, and Australia already does it," Health Minister Mehmet Müezzinoglu told reporters on Friday. "It has pros and cons," he added. "We are looking into it and will present it to the prime minister. If he approves, we will propose it to Parliament for approval." Earlier, the Health Ministry declared 2016 as "Tobacco Control Year." Long known as a haven for tobacco users, Turkey banned indoor smoking in 2009. The government is now considering extending the ban to outdoors locations, such as parks. Enditem |
