Kenya: BAT Loses Challenge of Tougher Tobacco Control Measures Source from: Tobacco Journal 03/28/2016 The High Court of Kenya struck down a challenge by British American Tobacco (BAT) of tougher tobacco control measures that include annual levies on manufacturers and pictorial health warnings, an tobacco control advocacy group said. The tougher measures initially were passed in 2014, but put on hold by the High Court pending a decision. According to the Campaign for Tobacco-Free Kids, BAT is expected to appeal the decision. In addition to graphic warnings, the new rules require tobacco companies to pay an annual fee into a tobacco control fund, the group said. Enditem |
