EU Moves Closer to Taxing E-cigarettes

European Union finance ministers asked the EU Commission to decide by next year whether to propose levying excise tax on e-cigarettes, Reuters reported.

Currently most EU states do not levy excise duties on vaping products, a measure which could substantially increase their cost to consumers. The Commission was asked to consider both the impact on state revenues and on public health, the news agency said.

A Commission spokesperson was cited saying any forthcoming proposal would likely propose taxing e-cigarettes at a lower rate than its combustible counterpart. Enditem
