The UAE Cabinet has approved the formation of an Anti-Tobacco Committee to coordinate nationwide efforts to reduce tobacco use.

According to Al Ittihad, The National's sister publication, the committee will also develop a database on the use of tobacco and its products and international tobacco trade.

The committee will comprise 15 members from 12 government entities, nine federal and three local, with a three-year term renewable by Cabinet decision. It will be headquartered at the Ministry of Health and will convene at least once every two months or when necessary.
