India: Banned Tobacco Products Seized, one held Source from: The Hindu 10/09/2015 ![]() The railway police on Thursday took into custody four bundles of banned tobacco products from the Kozhikode railway station and arrested a 27-year-old youth hailing from Uttar Pradesh. The police said the bundles, containing seven categories of banned tobacco products, had a market value of Rs. 12 lakh. The youth, Ravindar Chemmal, was detained by a police team led by Sub-Inspector A.K. Sasidharan. "His plan was to carry the illegal goods to Thamarassery," said a civil police officer at the railway police station. The police officer also claimed that the accused was carrying out the trade for the past 10 years. It was the second seizure made by the railway police team within the last four days. In a case reported last Sunday, the police seized around 25,200 packets of 'Hans', a brand of scented chewing tobacco worth Rs.2.7 lakh. Enditem |
