South Africa: Three to Appear After Dodging Taxes for R3 Million Tobacco

Three men who were arrested after they allegedly did not pay tax on an estimated R3m worth of tobacco, are expected to appear in court on Friday, Johannesburg metro police said.

Chief Superintendent Wayne Minnaar said the three were arrested on Tuesday night on the N1 highway with a truck loaded with tobacco.

He said that according to information the police received, the truck, which was coming from Zimbabwe, was on its way to deliver the tobacco to a company in Gauteng.

Minnaar said the three were in custody at the Brackendowns police station and would most likely appear in the Palm Ridge Magistrate's Court on Friday for tax evasion. Enditem
