India: Close down Tobacco Board, Say Activists

A group of tobacco control activists and supporters staged a demonstration in the city on Saturday demanding the closure of the Tobacco Promotion Board.

Members of Tamil Nadu People's Forum for Tobacco Control (TNPFTC) pointed out that while the health ministry is gearing for a better tobacco control law by making amendments in the Cigarette and Other Tobacco Products Act (COTPA), it failed to see the destructive nature of the tobacco board which works for tobacco promotion. Several doctors, social workers and lawyers took part in the demonstration. Enditem
