Abilene University To Become Smoke-Free Campus Starting June 1 Source from: ktxs.com 01/13/2015 ![]() Hardin-Simmons University announced Friday that it will become a tobacco-free, smoke-free campus, beginning June 1. In order to promote the health and wellness of students, faculty and staff, Hardin-Simmons will become a tobacco-free and smoke-free campus beginning June 1, 2015. As a part of the Transformation 2020 campaign, HSU is committed to the transformation of the lives of all of our students, faculty and staff. The new policy will prohibit the use of tobacco products on all university owned and leased properties. "The primary reason for the initiative is to promote a healthy and safe environment conducive to learning while enriching the total HSU experience," said Dr. Lanny Hall, University President. In the months ahead, the university is committed to helping students, faculty and staff manage or overcome their tobacco use by providing individual, free counseling sessions through the Family Psychology Center, and by offering educational guides to include free tobacco cessation classes offered throughout the community. Hardin-Simmons joins over 1000 higher education institutions across the United States that have adopted similar initiatives to prohibit the use of tobacco products on campus. The Deans of the Colleges/Schools, the Staff Senate and HSU's Student Government Association unanimously support the policy. Enditem |
