Sri Lanka: 6 Pictorial Warnings for Cigarette Packets Given to Tobacco Company Source from: Hiru News (lk) 10/14/2014 ![]() The National Authority on tobacco and alcohol has sent 6 pictorial warnings to Tobacco Company to be used on cigarette packets. Authority Chairman Dr. Palitha Abeykoon said these pictorial warnings have been endorsed by the World Health Organization, and they were sent to Tobacco Company on the Supreme Court order. The Appeal Court ordered Tobacco Company on the 12th of last May to display pictorial warnings on 50 to 60 percent of the space of a packet. The Appeal Court order was given after the tobacco company challenged the health ministry gazette which ordered the company to include 80% of the space of a packet for pictorial warning. Accordingly pictorial warnings should be displayed on cigarette packets with effect from January next year. Enditem |
