Poland Denounces EU Tobacco Directive Source from: Xinhua 07/16/2014 The government on Tuesday passed a complaint on the EU's tobacco directive to the European Court of Justice, the Government Information Centre (CIR) informed. The directive forbids the sale of flavored cigarettes from 2016 and menthol cigarettes from 2020. According to the Lewiatan employer confederation, which welcomed the complaint, the tobacco directive runs against EU laws and free commodity flow rulings. The ban on menthol cigarettes, of which Poland is the EU's leading producer, is the greatest bone of contention. Poland is the EU's largest cigarette manufacturer and the second largest tobacco producer. Enditem |
