Jamaica Receives Two Awards for Tobacco Laws

Jamaica walked away with two awards at the recently concluded fourth Inter American Health Foundation (IAHF) Latin American Conference on Tobacco or Health, held in San Jose, Costa Rica.

The awards were specifically "for protecting the health of all Jamaicans with strong regulations against tobacco" a news release from the Ministry of Health said late Tuesday.

The awards, which were accepted by the ministry and the Heart Foundation of Jamaica/Jamaica Coalition for Tobacco Control, come as Jamaica gets ready to make progress towards implementing the requirements under the Framework Convention on Tobacco Control (FCTC). The World Health Organisation (WHO)-sponsored treaty was adopted by 197 countries in 2003. Jamaica ratified in 2005. Enditem
