Namibia To Ban Smoking In Public Places

Namibia's Minister of Health and Social Services said the Tobacco Products Control Act will be gazetted in April this year, Namibia Press Agency (NAMPA) reported.

Once implemented, the Act will prohibit people from smoking in public places and areas such as restaurants, airports and in motor vehicles, among other places.

Speaking at the launching of World Cancer Day and the Southern African Development Community (SADC) Healthy Lifestyle Day on Wednesday, Health Minister Richard Kamwi said that World Health Organisation (WHO) director-general Dr Margaret Chan had given her support to the Act.

A 12-member Tobacco Products Control Committee made up of representatives from relevant stakeholders has been formed and a meeting scheduled from March 13 to 14. Enditem
