Nigeria: Group Urges Legislators to Pass Tobacco Control Bill

A group under the aegis of Tobacco Control Nigeria (TCN) have called on the federal government and stakeholders to reduce the death toll of non-smokers of tobacco, who die annually from tobacco-related diseases because of their exposure to second-hand smoke, by expediting the passage of the tobacco control bill before the National Assembly.

According to the spokesperson of TCN, Adebola Williams, the outfit is a policy change and public health campaign project using social media to advance tobacco control and support the passage of a comprehensive domestic Tobacco Control (TC) law in compliance with the World Health Organisation (WHO) Framework Convention on Tobacco Control (FCTC), to which Nigeria is a signatory.

The group warned that it's high time Nigerians made concerted effort in making the government realise the need to swing into action of ridding our environment of tobacco smoke, to prune down the number of fatalities resulting from tobacco smoke and abuse. Enditem
