Fiji 2014 National Budget: Alcohol, Cigarette Prices go up

CIGARETTE smokers and alcohol drinkers will have to pay more now.

While announcing the 2014 Budget, Prime Minister Commodore Voreqe Bainimarama said in keeping with the Government's efforts to reduce NCDs, the excise duty on tobacco and alcohol would increase by 10 per cent.

"In addition, the allowable quantity of cigarettes which can be purchased at duty free shops will be reduced from 250 grams to 200 grams. The minimum age for persons eligible to purchase cigarettes from duty free shops will be increased from 17 years to 18 years," he said. Enditem
