Indonesia: Smoking is Against the Law

The Province of Bali is introducing a program of portable courts to process violators of no smoking in public areas rules that is now the law.

A law ratified in 2011 Bans smoking in most public places.

The head of Disease Control and Environmental Health for the Province of Bali, Dr. Gede Wira Sunetra, explained that the portable court concept is being done to hasten the punishment phase for those caught breaking the law by smoking in non-smoking zoned.

During the test phase of the mobile court a total of 19 people received "quick justice" after they were caught smoking in restaurants, schools and public areas.

The anti-smoking law in Bali provides for maximum fines of Rp. 50,000 or 3 months in prison. Enditem
