Sudan Firm Sued Over Sh43 Million Cigarettes

KENYA'S extradition agreements with Sudan will determine the fate of a consignee of the Sh 43.3 million counterfeit cigarettes seized at the port of Mombasa last week on Friday.

The Kenya anti counterfeit agency is seeking to have directors of Well general trading limited, a Sudan based company to appear in court to help ascertain the real owners of the goods.

The company is declared as the importers of the 8.86 million sticks of cigarettes from India which were destined for South Sudan.

According to the Mombasa county anti counter officer Casper Oluoch, the 20 feet container was intercepted at the port after being trailed for more than two weeks.

The cigarettes were packed in 886 cartons with each box containing fifty outers of 20 boxes. Each box contained ten cigarettes branded 'Bringi'.

According to ACA, the manufacturing rights belong to Haggar cigarettes and Tobacco factory limited based in Khartoum Sudan and are only registered in the Sudanese and Kenyan markets. Enditem
