Fiji to be Smoke-free

THE Ministry of Health is calling on members of the public to join its campaign to make Fiji a smoke-free country.

Head of the Tobacco Control Unit Aminiasi Tavui said apart from causing serious health problems, the consumption of tobacco products imposed enormous burden on the health care system through active and passive smoking.

Mr Tavui revealed that Fiji, being a small country with less than 900,000 people, was struggling with the burden of death and diseases caused by tobacco use.

Mr Tavui said if parents were to ensure healthier and brighter future for their children, then everybody must redouble their efforts to eliminate this environmental hazard. Enditem
