Kazakhstan: Kazakhs Propose Ban on Smoking While Driving

Kazakhstani lower-chamber deputy Omarkhan Oksibayev June 19 has again suggested prohibiting smoking behind the wheel, Tengri News reported.

Oksibayev, whose earlier efforts to pass such a law did not made progress, said that car crashes kill about 3,000 people yearly in Kazakhstan.

The Interior Ministry is now willing to consider such a ban, Interior Minister Kalmukhanbet Kasymov said, noting that parliament is about to discuss a new Administrative and Criminal Code.

Kazakhstan already prohibited smoking in schools, hospitals and entertainment venues (like nightclubs and cinemas), Lenta.ru reported. Enditem
