E-Cigarettes to be Treated as Medicines

E-cigarettes and other nicotine-containing products (NCPs) like gums and patches will be regulated as a medicine, the Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency (MHRA) announced.

Until the European Union reaches consensus on regulating e-cigarettes and NCPs as medicines, a measure which could go into effect with the revised Tobacco Products Directive by 2016, MHRA said it will encourage e-cigarette makers with unlicensed products to apply for a medicine license. Enditem
