EU Commissioner Georgieva: Smoking Ban Should be Maintained in Bulgaria

Should the smoking ban in public spaces be lifted? This question has been raised again as the new government declared preparedness to ease the regime due to the bankruptcies of entertainment establishments in times of crisis.　A few hundred protesters gathered in front of the Bulgarian Parliament on Saturday to oppose the measure.

EU Humanitarian Aid Commissioner Kristalina Georgieva believes that the ban should remain as the people's health is what matters most, BNT reports. Plans to ban smoking in public spaces have always entailed disputes, however, the benefits for society are undisputable, while the so-called economic harm has never been proven, she said. She voiced hopes that the difficult decision from last year will be maintained and the right choice for Bulgarians' health made. Enditem
