As Ghana joins the rest of the world to celebrate World No Tobacco Day, a call has gone to Ghanaians to insist on their rights for a smoke free environment.

The Head of Tobacco and Substance Abuse Department of the Food and Drugs Authority, FDA, Mrs Olivia Boateng, said there are laws that protect non-smokers and that laws must be respected.

Speaking to Radio Ghana, Mrs Boateng said the FDA is stepping up efforts to educate and sensitise the public on the new public Health Bills.

She called for the building of Addictive Disease Centres to reform people suffering from drug and substance abuse challenges.

Giving statistics on the effect of tobacco smoking, Mrs. Boateng explained that every year six million people die of smoking and every six- point-five second somebody die from Tobacco use. Enditem
