Fiji: Smoking to be Banned in Schools and Tertiary Institutes

Schools or tertiary institutes and amusement centers are amongst the public places where smoking will be prohibited from the first of July.

This according to Ministry of Health Tobacco Control Unit Head Aminiasi Tavui will be introduced under the Tobacco Control Regulation.

Tavui said from the first of July smoking will also be prohibited in building foyers and on ships and boats.

Nightclubs and restaurants will need to also setup well ventilated and designated smoking areas.

Anyone breaching the regulation by smoking in prohibited places will be fined $200 while the owner of these properties may face a $1,000 fine.

The Tobacco Control Regulation comes into effect on the first of July. Enditem
