Fiji: Tobacco Regulation to Increase Areas of Smoking Prohibition

A Tobacco Control Regulation is expected to come into effect in July this year which will cover more areas where smoking is prohibited.

A briefing with stakeholders was held in Lautoka in relation to Tobacco Control Regulation 2012 which was gazetted this year.

Health Ministry Tobbaco Control Unit Officer in charge, Amaniasi Tavui said additional public places where smoking is prohibited mentioned in the regulation is not covered under the Tobacco Control Decree.

According to Tavui, areas which are covered under the regulation included night clubs, pubs, Bars and Restaurants which should have a separate designated area for smoking.

The regulation comes into effect from 1st of July. Enditem
