China: Macau Govt Warns Casinos to Improve Air Quality Source from: Macau Business (mo) 05/07/2013 ![]() Secretary for Social Affairs and Culture Cheong U reiterated that the government is determined to reduce, or even cancel, the smoking areas in casinos and slot machine parlours that are not able to meet minimum air quality standards. Mr U said the Health Bureau would carry out a second check "in due course" on the casinos that had failed to meet the requirements in the first test. The first test took place in January and February. The results were announced in March. A total of 28 gaming venues – including slot parlours – or 64 percent of the total, failed to comply with at least one of the six reference air quality requirements. Starting from January 1 this year, a partial smoking ban has been in effect in casinos, which can only have smoking areas covering up to 50 percent of their gaming floors. Enditem |
