Romania: Specific Excise Duty for Cigarettes Hiked up to 56.71 Euros per 100 Cigarettes as of April 1 Source from: ACTMedia News Agency (ro) 04/03/2013 ![]() The specific excise duty applied to cigarettes was set at 56.71 euros per 1000 cigarettes for the period April 1, 2013 - March 31, 2014, up compared with the current level of 53.18 euros per 1000 cigarettes. According to the Tax Code as amended, the level of the total cigarette excise duty, with effect from April 1, 2013 until March 31, 2014 inclusive, will be hiked from 79.19 to 81.78 per 1.000 cigarettes. The total excise duty on cigarettes is made up of the specific excise per 1,000 cigarettes and the ad-valorem excise applied to the declared retail sale price. The total excise duty for cigarettes over July 1, 2012 - March 31, 2013 is 79.19 1.000 cigarette cases. As for the current structure of the total excise duty, valid by March 31, 2013 inclusive, it stands at 53.18 euros for 1,000 cigarettes plus 20 percent of the declared retail sale price. The Government Ordinance. No. 8/2013 amending the Fiscal Code hurried the increase in the minimum excise duty for cigarettes from July 1 2013 to April 1, 2013, in this context being necessary that the Ministry of Public Finance to advance the promotion of the Government Decision approving the specific excise duty. The weighed average retail sale price for 2012, calculated according to the provisions of the Fiscal Code, is 1.000 131.9539 euros per 1,000 cigarettes and 11.9347 lei per pack. According to the Annex No. 6 with Title VII 'Excise and other special charges' of the Tax Code from April 1, 2013 - December 31, 2017 inclusive, on April 1 of each year will intervene the amendment of the specific excise duty.
