Korea - South: Smoking Banned from 21 Nat‘l Parks in S.Korea in 2013

Starting next year, a new law will prohibit smoking in 21 national parks in South Korea. Violators will be fined a fee worth 40 packs of cigarettes.

 

The Korea National Park Service said on Saturday that it will designate all national parks as nonsmoking areas starting January first next year. Visitors found smoking will be fined 100-thousand won.

Repeat offenders found smoking in the same area can be fined up to 300-thousand won.

Currently, smoking in national parks is only prohibited in restrooms, resting areas, parking lots, and evacuation areas.

As of November this year, more than 300 visitors to national parks were caught smoking in prohibited areas and fined. Enditem
