The new amendments made in the Tobacco Products Regulations will take effect in the first quarter next year.
Health Minister Datuk Seri Liow Tiong Lai said the ministry is in the process of amending the regulations.

"It is ongoing and we are getting feedback from the stakeholders, such as the public, through the ministry's website," he said during a press conference after witnessing the signing of a joint venture contract between China's Naton Medical Group, OSA Niaga Sdn Bhd and Straits Orthopaedics Sdn Bhd.
The formation of the joint venture company in Malaysia will enable the nation to manufacture orthopaedic devices comprising trauma, spine and arthroplasty products.
Liow said that the amendments made would allow the government to take those who sell or possess the contraband cigarettes to court.
The government is considering making contraband cigarettes illegal to not only manufacture and sell, but to possess them as well. Enditem
